We are about to enter game week six and Shaqiri has still not had the chance to start for Liverpool.
The Swiss international has come on as a substitute three times now for Liverpool. He has managed to scrap a total of 11 minutes in the Premier League and only 6 minutes in the Champions League. It’s not really good if you realise there’s has been 540 minutes of game time played.
I’m not surprised some fans believe Klopp is overlooking the talents of the midfielder. Now, Shaqiri has decided to weigh in on how he feels with the lack of game time:
““It is not easy for me, of course I am a little downbeat,” he said (Mirror).
However, despite the lack of opportunities, the 27 year-old has reassured fans that he is happy at the club.
Shaqiri commented: “I feel very comfortable here. We have a great coach, a great club. There’s a family feel. I hope we can bring the Premier League back to Liverpool after 30 years.” (Mirror).
You have to hand it to Shaqiri- I appreciate his sportsmanship and patience. He could have caused a big issue by demanding game time or requesting a transfer, but instead he is looking at the bigger picture. He would rather the team reclaim the title than make it about personal accolades.
Liverpool know that Shaqiri is a valuable player, that he can change a game given enough time. Klopp just needs to utilise him properly.
