Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley hasn’t had the best of weeks so far. The 25-year-old missed a late penalty that cost Chelsea dear in a 1-0 defeat against Valencia.
Despite having the good sense to leave Everton, the midfielder is more unpopular with Liverpool fans than ever before.
Liverpool-born Barkley will now face the travelling Kop who will undoubtedly give him a lot of stick at Stamford Bridge this Sunday.
The key reason for Barkley’s unpopularity among Liverpool fans is the sheer disloyalty he showed towards Everton. Most Red’s would expect more from a player born and raised in the city.
Barkley’s departure to Chelsea and the manner in which it was completed was questionable to say the least.
The Toffees had looked set to cash in on the young midfielder with a £35m bid on the table from Chelsea. Barkley declined the deal in order to negotiate a better contract from the London club.
He joined Chelsea six months later for a cut price fee of £15m. By securing himself the best deal possible he cost his boyhood club £20m.
The city was united in condemnation of one of its own.
Liverpool’s travelling Kop will be sure to let Barkley know what they think of him at Stamford Bridge this Sunday.
