Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti has hailed Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side as the best in Europe. The two teams meet at the Stadio San Paolo in the first game in Group E of the Champions League.
This is the second consecutive year the sides have been pitted against each other at this stage of the competition.
In 2018 the Italian club emerged victorious from this fixture. A late Lorenzo Insigne goal secured a 1-0 win for the home side.
Veteran manager Ancelotti is hopeful of a repeat result against visitors Liverpool. The Italian insisted his side can emerge victorious but will need to play the “perfect game.”
Speaking to Football Italia, he said. “It’ll be a hard-fought match as we’ll be facing the best team in Europe. We hope to get the same result as last season.
“I expect a team capable of defending when necessary, attacking when the opportunity arises and keeping the ball when needed. We’ll need the perfect game.”
With a home crowd roaring them on, world-class players at their disposal and a recent victory in this fixture to recall Napoli have every reason to be confident heading into this game.
Liverpool have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season. The Reds will need to continue that fine form to live up to Ancelotti’s “best in Europe” tag and come away from Naples with all three points.
