Some Liverpool fans have begun to think Shaqiri is being overlooked by Klopp as the international returnees get game time ahead of him.

If I was in Shaqiri’s shoes, I think I would be a little disappointed to find out to that I’d be sitting on the bench. Especially when he chose to not play for Switzerland in the international break to fight for his place in the Liverpool squad.

Still, Klopp chose to start Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabinho over the Swiss midfielder- both who have just returned from international duty.

Some fans took to Twitter to express their frustrations over the lack of game time the 27 year-old:

Despite sitting on the bench, Shaqiri was one of Liverpool’s top playmakers last year.

He had clearly showed he deserved more game time by the number of goals and assists he accrued last year. The statistics for our clubs show the Swiss midfielder had more goals and assists than Henderson, Fabinho and Wijnaldum (Premier League stats). Those are our core midfielders, which shows you how affective he is on the offense.

His creative prowess was shown again today when Shaqiri was subbed in in the 84th minute. Within five minutes, he impressed fans by providing Firmino with a goal scoring opportunity that would have made it 4-1:

It’s nice to see that the midfielder has got the support of the fans, but does he have it of the manager?

I think so.

With the Reds due to play Napoli on Tuesday and then on Sunday against Chelsea, we should expect to see Shaqiri on the field more.
