Spanish publication AS is reporting that Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Virgil Van Dijk are the subjects of interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Klopp is seen as the catalyst for Liverpool’s rise to the top of European football. Whilst Van Dijk is favourite win the Ballon d’Or.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are now believed to be ready to battle it out for the Liverpool duo.
Current managers Ernesto Valverde and Zinedine Zidane are already under pressure at their respective clubs. The Spanish teams are under performing in the league and both men could face the sack sooner rather than later. This would trigger a bid for Klopp who has been at Anfield since 2015.
The German manager is currently contracted to the club until 2022 and planning a sabbatical when that contract finishes. In the meantime, neither Liverpool nor Klopp would entertain offers to take his services elsewhere.
Van Dijk also has a long-term contract which takes the Dutch international to 2024.
The 28-year-old arrived for what was a world-record fee at the time (£75m) in 2018 and has since gone on to significantly increase his worth.
Liverpool fans can relax safe in the knowledge that Klopp and Van Dijk won’t be going anywhere.
The Liverpool board have consistently shown resolve in transfer dealings and would not entertain offers for the Reds pair. While the duo themselves have no reason to leave with a Champion League already won and more trophies on the horizon.
This type of speculation is simply the price of success.
