Liverpool gaffer Jürgen Klopp has scooped the Premier League manager of the month award for August. Was it ever in any doubt?
The Reds boss has fought off competition from Pep Guardiola, Roy Hodgson and Brendan Rodgers to take home the gong.
Pep Guardiola is currently lying second in the Premier League as his Man City side have started the season undefeated but have dropped two points in a draw with Tottenham Hotspur. The game that has cost the Citizens a 100% start was shrouded in controversy as they had a late winner correctly disallowed when VAR adjudged Aymeric Laporte to have committed handball in the build up to Gabriel Jesus’ last minute strike.
Brendan Rodgers has been incredibly impressive at Leicester this year, the Foxes currently stand as the best of the rest behind City and Liverpool. They’ve collected two wins and registered two draws so far, including an impressively stubborn display away to a misfiring Chelsea side.
Roy Hodgson has been receiving plaudits for his Crystal Palace’s side performance above expectations. They have proven to be incredibly difficult to beat but have also struggled in front of goal. The highlight of their August being a 2-1 win at Old Trafford, breaking the hearts of an incredibly troubled Manchester United side.
In truth, Jürgen Klopp walked the award. The Liverpool boss’s side have been in irresistible form this year. The sternest test they faced in August being the visit of top-six side Arsenal, a test that the German’s men passed with flying colours, brushing the Gunners aside 3-1. If Klopp keeps picking up individual prizes, then Liverpool are nailed on for that elusive big one at the end of the year. Congrats to Premier League manager of the month, Klopp.
