Naby Keita has had a torrid time at Liverpool since his arrival from RB Leipzig. He has been beset by injuries and has struggled to get a string of games in the first team side as a result.
The Guinean international saw Liverpool break a club record when the Anfield outfit paid his £48m release clause in the summer of 2017. He arrived on Merseyside the following year and proved to be a damp squib due to his inability to keep fit.
Superstar winger Sadio Mane spoke with Complex magazine and, in an interview published on the 9th of September 2019, he backed his “younger brother” to succeed at Anfield.
The pair played together in Germany and Mane told the magazine they have been close since then: “Since our days at Salzburg, he was always a good man, and a good friend to me”.
Sadio’s backing of the player is not just sentimental. The golden boot holder believes that Keita has what it takes to succeed in a red shirt.
“He’s such a great player, so I think everyone will see once he gets over his injures how important he will be for this club,” Mane said.
“I have no doubts about him!”
Keita has turned in some stellar performances for Liverpool but they have been few and far between due to fitness issues. The midfielder hasn’t played a competitive game for Liverpool since limping off in Barcelona. The Community Shield is a friendly, I will die on that hill.
