There has been much speculation in the last week about the harmony of the Liverpool dressing room. Sadio Mane’s happiness in particular has been the focus of much scrutiny following an outburst against Burnley.
The Senegalese winger was furious with being substituted after Mo Salah’s selfishness prevented him getting a second goal. Mane has laid all the uncertainty to rest in an interview with Complex, published 9 September 2019.
The Premier League golden boot winner told the magazine: “I really struggle to describe how happy I am to be here”. Phew.
Sadio’s happiness is inextricably linked to the happiness of the Kop, a kind of mutual Mudita. The Liverpool supporters are one of the main reasons that the winger is so happy on Merseyside. He continued, “We have the best fans in the world here, so I’m always so thankful for the support” – words that will warm the hearts of an Anfield faithful that frequently give themselves a sore throat for the man, the player’s name burning out their vocal chords.
The former Southampton man realises the role that the fans have to play and believes they are a key to the on pitch success the club have enjoyed. He noted how the Kop’s backing “gives the whole squad more motivation to perform. It keeps [them] hungry to get better and better together”.
It is no secret that Liverpool fans have long been crucial to their team’s success. They are able to turn Anfield into an unplayable cauldron, it is no surprise that Mane has felt the benefits.
