Benfica’s Andre Almeida has issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to Jürgen Klopp after opening up in an interview with Portuguese radio station Mega Hits.
In the interview which you can watch here, the superstar defender speaks of his ambition to play in England and how Anfield is one of his preferred destinations. Should Liverpool sign Almeida?
The Benfica defender plays on either flank of the back 4. His one league start this year has come at right back, playing the full 90 as Benfica cruised to victory with a 4-0 away win at Braga.
He is a regular starter for the Portuguese champions. The full back was integral to Benfica’s narrow clinching of the Primeira Liga title. Almeida registered an incredibly impressive 11 assists and 2 goals from fullback.
In the interview, Almeida said: “I always had the dream of going to the Premier League”. Who doesn’t? Now 29, the star is at the peak of his powers and after seeing Joao Felix leave the club for Atletico Madrid in the summer – he may think now is the time to play at a higher level.
The player, capped 8 times for Portugal, continued: “I really like Liverpool and Manchester United for their history”. Refreshingly, the ambitious defender was realistic about his limited chances were he to make the switch to English football, “I would not have the ability to play all the starting games,” he admitted.
Should Liverpool sign Almeida? If the price is right he could provide versatile defensive cover – much needed given Nathaniel Clyne’s injury woes. If the price is right, it could be foolish to pass him up.
