At present, Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe and thriving under Klopp. They are so good, even Rafa Benitez believes the team are better than the 2005 squad. However, we wouldn’t be the team we are today without some of the players who signed under Brendan Rodgers.

  1. James Milner

Milner is one of the few signings that still plays regular XI football under Klopp. Signed on a free in July 2015, Milner has helped to strengthen Liverpool’s midfield. His strong leadership skills are an asset to the team, to the point that Rodgers appointed him to be Liverpool’s vice-captain– a title he still keeps now.

2. Divock Origi

In 2014, we signed the striker for £10m from Lille. Since then, he has become a regular substitute, but has still managed to score 16 goals for the team (Premier League stats). He’ll be a Liverpool legend forever after he helped the team clinch their sixth Champions League title.

3. Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho was an asset to Liverpool before his departure in 2018. Signed in 2013 for £8.6m, Scoring 41 goals and gaining thirty five assists (Premier League stats) we have to thank Rodgers for spotting Coutinho’s talent. His £142m departure helped Liverpool to build up their defence with Van Dijk and Alisson.

4. Roberto Firmino

Signed for £29m in 2015, we’ve already discussed his importance to the squad. Lucky for us, he’s signed a contract till 2023.

The team is definitely in its best form under Klopp, but we can’t deny that Rodgers helped in developing them.
