With the new season about to begin on 8 September, the striker will be a key factor to ensure Liverpool’s victory against Reading.
Liverpool Women may not have had the results they wanted when the team finished 8th last season, but Courtney Sweetman-Kirk made quite an impact on the field after transferring from Everton in 2018.
So why is Sweetman-Kirk important to the squad?
Within her debut season, the striker’s talent didn’t go unnoticed as she made the list for ‘The Top Ten Scorers in the Women’s Super League’ with 10 goals.
Now, the 28-year-old is looking to continue her great form going into the 2019/2020. Within three years, we can see how her skills have improved and how she can influence the game. If we compare the 2017/18 campaign to her Liverpool debut, Sweetman-Kirk had scored twice as many goals despite having less game time.
It is apparent that Sweetman-Kirk has cemented her place in the first-team. However, LFC women’s manager Vicki Jepson should consider giving her more game time if she wants to improve the team’s standing.
Maybe it’s because Jepson was allowing the striker to figure out her role, but that shouldn’t be the case now Sweetman-Kirk has become the team’s top goal scorer. Jepson should use these talents to improve the attack and build up the team’s confidence.
