Emre Can isn’t having the ideal time at Juventus and he joins Philippe Coutinho as players who may regret leaving Liverpool.

Because truthfully, Liverpool is the place to be right now. They’re the champions of Europe and racked up 97 points in the Premier League. But that’s not all – every player at Anfield appears to get better and better.

There’s Mohamed Salah, for example, who turned up and appeared instantly transformed into a world-class winger. And Sadio Mane, who has gradually improved to reach the incredible level he is now.

Even Joel Matip – he has fourth-choice a year ago and didn’t command much respect. Now he’s a starting centre-half for the European Champions. And the thing is, you can pick examples like this from virtually every player in the squad.

Can and Coutinho’s decisions

So when you have a look at Can and Coutinho, two players who thought things were better elsewhere, it highlights just how good things are at Liverpool.

Coutinho chased further stardom at Barcelona, of course. 18 months later he joined Bayern Munich on loan – Barca simply didn’t want him anymore. In all, the £142m deal couldn’t have gone much better for Liverpool.

And Can is facing a similar problem. The German signed for Juventus on a free transfer last summer but they were looking to get rid a year later. TuttoSport, for instance, claim Juve wanted to use him as a makeweight for Ivan Rakitic.

That didn’t come to fruition and instead Can is left in a bloated squad, full of centre midfielders. There’s Miralem Pjanic, Sami Khedira, Blaise Matuidi, Adrian Rabiot, and Aaron Ramsey – Can may be bottom of the pile.

Liverpool is the place to be and the fortunes of Can and Coutinho only highlight that. Things aren’t just worse elsewhere – even elite clubs can be a major step backwards.
