Harry Wilson needs to add one more thing to his game to become a very special player.
Exactly what that is is debatable but we know for sure that he’s got the tools to get there. This weekend saw him score his second goal in as many games for Bournemouth. Naturally, it was an absolute screamer.
Wilson had come on as a substitute against Manchester City but put his name up in lights right before halftime.
Bournemouth trailed 2-0 when they won a free-kick 25 yards from goal. Up steps Wilson and he somehow manages to find the top corner on the goalkeeper’s side. You can check the goal out below:
It was an absolutely fantastic goal to add to the one he got last week. As Eddie Howe said after the game, it’s a wonderful weapon to have in a team’s armory.
Wilson has certainly proven that he had that magic quality. He can score from nothing, no matter what’s put in front of him and that’s a skill that can take you far.
But only so far; if Wilson wants to become a truly special player, he needs to add something else to his game.
Perhaps he could become more creative? It’s certainly something Liverpool would like to have with their lethal front-three. If Wilson added assists to his game, you can pretty much guarantee him a place in the Liverpool squad for years to come. He only managed four in the Championship last season – double that and he would clearly have a part to play at Anfield.
Or he could add more ‘conventional’ goals. Wilson almost exclusively scores spectacular goals and while he does it far more regularly than most, it’s not a reliable method for a top team. You need something genuinely consistent at the top level, not a skill seen a few times a season.
If the Welshman can add something more reliable to his unique ability to score wonderful goals, he’ll become an incredibly exciting – and dangerous – player for Liverpool.
