Predicting Liverpool's starting eleven for tonight's Super Cup clash with Chelsea

Liverpool and Chelsea meet at Vodafone Park, Istanbul, in tonight’s UEFA Super Cup as both sides prepare to do battle for some early-season silverware.

Jurgen Klopp’s men got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start, beating newly-promoted Norwich City 4-1 at Anfield.

Frank Lampard’s start to his Chelsea reign didn’t go as he would have liked, however. The Blues went down 4-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

For the Super Cup, Klopp is likely to rotate his starting eleven with the midfield, in particular, getting a complete overhaul as the manager looks to spread the minutes around his squad.

Adrian will start in goals after first-choice ‘keeper Alisson suffered an injury in the Norwich game.

Joel Matip could come in instead of Joe Gomez and it’s very possible Matip, with a good performance, could earn back his starting place in defence. Liverpool have looked shaky at the back so far and Klopp is likely to consider all options to provide some much-needed stability as quickly as possible.

Fabinho and Jordan Henderson may not be risked against Chelsea. If so, Gini Wijnaldum would be the ideal player in the ‘6’ role at the base of the midfield. James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could make up the rest of the midfield trio. Naby Keita would most likely have started but for the injury he picked up in training yesterday.

In attack, Roberto Firmino might be on the bench to facilitate Sadio Mané starting to get his fitness up. If this is the case, Mohamed Salah will be on the right, Mané on the left and Divock Origi through the centre.

Predicted Liverpool XI Vs Chelsea (4-3-3): Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Salah, Origi, Mané
