Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah scored his second goal in as many games to help Egypt advance to the last sixteen of the 2019 AFCON last night.
The Reds’ number 11 stepped up to bang home an impressive free-kick, opening the scoring against Uganda in a game where Egypt would go on to win 2-0.
This was Egypt’s third consecutive win of the group stages, meaning they topped Group A with the maximum possible total of 9 points.
Salah has now scored twice in the competition and will be looking to continue his rich vein of form as the knockout stages get underway from next Friday evening.
Egypt’s last-16 fixture will be on Saturday night but they must wait until all the group standings are finalised before they find out who their opponents will be.
Sadio Mané’s Senegal also look likely to advance to the latter stages of the tournament with Naby Keita’s Guinea hoping to progress as one of the best third-placed teams from the group stage.
Keita is currently back on Merseyside for specialist treatment after picking up another injury in Guinea’s defeat to Nigeria last week.
Liverpool fans everywhere will be hoping Salah, Mané and Keita finish out the AFCON with no further injury concerns ahead of what is sure to be another push for the Premier League title in 2019/20.
