Any hopes that Liverpool may sign Nicolas Pepe are surely over after Internazionale’s reported £67m bid.
It’s debatable whether Liverpool ever had interest, it should be said. The strongest sources always maintained that they weren’t, with reports always coming from France or elsewhere.

But Pepe is a very desirable talent. He’s only 23, he can score plenty of goals from wide, and he’s available. Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have had fantastic success with players like that, making links inevitable. There’s little doubt that he’d be an effective player for Liverpool.
Any hopes that they may swoop in are likely done, though, if Inter really have bid. Telefoot claim they have, saying that the Italians have made a bid of £67m for Pepe.

Whether it’s accepted or not, it puts them in a position that Liverpool can’t match.
Firstly, that would be the second biggest fee in Liverpool’s history. That’s an awful lot for a player who would only be the second choice behind the current front three.

What’s also key is that while, as mentioned, he’d be a backup player at Anfield, he wouldn’t be at Inter. Instead, he’d be a key player and possibly the star forward, given the Mauro Icardi situation.
And so moving for Pepe, at that price, makes little sense for either Liverpool or Pepe. That surely ends any chance of it happening.
