Philippe Coutinho offered a vague response to a question about his Barcelona future after a horrid second season at Camp Nou.
He told the media: “I don’t know if I will continue at Barcelona.
“Nobody knows about the future, and right now I am focused on playing with my [national] team [at the Copa America].”
While it’s very possible that the former Liverpool midfielder doesn’t mean to incite more speculation over his future, by not declaring that he will stay at Barcelona he has added to the furore.
He joined the Catalonians as part of a deal that could be worth £142million if all performance related add-ons are achieved, with Barcelona committed to paying a basic fee of £105m, the BBC reported last year.
There are yet to be any concrete sources reporting that Liverpool are keen on inviting Coutinho to move back to Merseyside, it’s a prospect that excites fans very much.
When he left midway through the season, Coutinho already had 20 direct goal contributions from central midfield and had he remained at the club, there’s every chance that he could have won the PFA Player of the Year ahead of Salah.
Liverpool are still without a world class attacking midfielder and if the price is right, a deal to re-sign Coutinho would propel them onto an even higher level next season.
