Liverpool are set to send both Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo to Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say Rangers are ‘closing in’ on a deal for Kent. They apparently want Ojo, too, setting up an attack with Liverpool wingers on each flank.
It’s a real show of faith in Gerrard at Liverpool, as both Kent and Ojo are rated highly at Anfield.
Kent on the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year award last year. That led to Liverpool believing they could fetch £12m for the winger – a fee they’re apparently willing to pass up to give him a second year with Gerrard.
They simply must believe that the former Liverpool captain can improve the player further. Whether that’s to raise his fee or for a potential Liverpool role, we don’t know yet.
Either way, it reflects well on Gerrard.
Ojo is an interesting one. He’s just had a terrible year in France, starting just three Ligue 1 games for Stade Reims. Despite that, he’s set to get a new contract, again according to the Mail, despite signing one last year.
We thought he’d be gone this summer but Liverpool still see a future in the 21-year-old. They appear to believe that Gerrard can help him accomplish it.
He may not be with the Reds any more but Liverpool are still finding ways to depend on Gerrard.
