Liverpool will hand Sheyi Ojo a new contract ahead of a loan to Rangers, according to reports.
The Mail believes that discussions are ongoing but are expected to wrap up before he heads out on loan.
Either way, it shows a great amount of faith in Ojo after his disastrous loan to Stade Reims. The winger started just three Ligue 1 games all season, with his only goal of the season coming in the French League Cup.
Really, it feels like a year of wasted development for the 21-year-old. That only highlights Liverpool’s faith in him, however.
Most teams may decide to move the player on permanently – it’s certainly what we thought would happen. He flopped in France, losing a key year of progress and suggesting he is not cut out for Liverpool.
Instead, it’s another new contract for Ojo – who only signed his current one last year – and, according to the Mail, a loan out to Rangers. The temporary switch would be understandable, but the contract suggests a real belief in Ojo.
Liverpool aren’t giving up on the player, it seems. After such a poor season that was a real setback for him, it is a wonderful show of faith.
It must surely come from what Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp have seen in training. They see a much brighter future for the winger and they are usually right.
