Potential Liverpool target Matthijs de Ligt admitted he is in talks with a new club, the Mirror reports.
The 19-year-old Ajax captain has been the subject of much speculation recently, with Liverpool often linked with a move.
De Ligt has enjoyed an incredible campaign with Ajax, winning the Eredivisie and reaching the Champions League semi-final.
Yet with a number of Europe’s elite clubs circling, de Ligt’s future looks destined to lie away from Amsterdam.
After Ajax’s final game of the season, he said: “Has it been my last game at the Johan Cruyff Arena? I do not know yet.
“There are conversations, but there is still no agreement. With who? The newspapers write, so choose one yourself.”
These comments will further fuel speculation that de Ligt will leave Ajax this summer.
Liverpool have been linked with his services, and fans on Twitter have expressed their desire to see him at Anfield.
The prospect of the powerful young centre back playing alongside his imperious compatriot Virgil van Dijk is a mouth-watering one.
Van Dijk was instrumental in Liverpool’s success this season and has helped to transform Klopp’s defence into Europe’s best.
However, his options for reinforcements are somewhat limited in the middle of his defence.
Dejan Lovren is almost always injured, and Joe Gomez has suffered another season’s growth stunted due to injury set-backs.
Joel Matip has deputised with distinction for most of the season, but if Klopp wants sustained success, improvements are required.
De Ligt’s potential arrival would be a significant addition and would pave the way for Lovren to leave Anfield.
While this may seem harsh on a loyal servant, Klopp must be cut-throat if Liverpool are to keep challenging City.
