Jurgen Klopp believes next year could be huge for Rhian Brewster after his surprise inclusion to face Barcelona.
Brewster suffered a terrible injury in January 2018, leaving him sidelined until March this year. His comeback has been good, though, scoring on both non-competitive and competitive returns.
Few thought he would impress enough to travel with the first-team to Barcelona, however. But it’s another sign of how much the staff at Liverpool rate the 19-year-old.
Another huge sign came last summer. Despite the long-term injury, Liverpool offered Brewster a new five-year contract which he duly signed.
And now, after just a few months training, Liverpool are backing up that faith with his inclusion in the first-team.
That’s not to say that Brewster will feature at Camp Nou. He may well do, of course, but it does seem a little soon both experience and fitness-wise.
Instead, it’ll be more about getting Brewster ready for next season. Experiencing a place like Camp Nou and the first-team atmosphere that surrounds it is a fantastic learning experience.
“He is the next really exciting prospect,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com. “If you see him training… next season will be his season, his first real season.”
And so it seems very likely that Brewster will be a first-team feature next season. The faith shown in him thus far has been incredible – especially considering the injury – and if he lives up to this hype then Liverpool have a very special player on their hands.
His inclusion to face Barcelona is merely the start for Brewster.
