Pound for pound, Andy Robertson might be the best ever signing that Liverpool have made after they took the Scotsman from Hull City for £8million.
If you ever want to remind yourself that Liverpool robbed the Tigers of one of the best defenders in the world, just consider that the fact that Kevin Stewart joined the Championship side at the same time and for £2m more.
Robertson has been a standout performer ever since he established himself in the starting XI in December 2017.
The 25-year-old helped the Reds to a Champions League final in his first season at the club and is on course to do so again if Liverpool overcome Barcelona.
He has also helped Liverpool launch a historic title bid and could even win it with 97 points if Manchester City slip up in their next two games.
What happens this season won’t define his career in any way, shape or form but it will be a campaign that is used to argue how good of a signing he has been for the Reds.
The only two players still playing that could rival Robertson as one of the greatest signings the club has ever made are Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
The last two PFA Players of the Year have been outstanding for Liverpool and are leading the charge for silverware this season.
Beyond Robertson, van Dijk and Salah, the only other name that springs to mind is Luis Saurez.
The Uruguayan is one of the single-most talented players to have played for the Reds but his leaving the club means he won’t be considered by fans as one of the club’s greatest ever.
Robertson, who effectively cost the club nothing, is one of the best signings Liverpool have ever completed and still has several years left at the club.
With his career with the Reds still ongoing, the Scotsman could make a further argument to be considered as the best signing in the club’s history.
