Jurgen Klopp wants to bring Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Houssem Aouar to Liverpool, according to French media.
Le10Sport makes the claim, saying that Liverpool are really trying to push things forward. It gets complicated, however, as Tanguy Ndombele & Nabil Fekir’s futures play a big part.
The outlet says that Lyon expect to sell the latter two and that makes any sale of Aouar unlikely. It would take a huge, market-busting offer to change their minds on that, apparently.
Is that likely, though? Probably not. Liverpool have paid fees like that for two players in recent times, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, but both were ‘necessities’. There is no desperate need for a midfielder, let alone a 20-year-old.
But it’s easy to see why Klopp would be so interested. Aouar is highly talented and a regular in the middle of Lyon’s midfield despite his youth.
His seven goals and seven assists are enticing when your own midfield doesn’t offer that combined. It looks like it would take a lot of convincing, however.
Perhaps Ndombele or Fekir stay and Lyon are more perceptive. It’s more likely that Lyon see him as the player to step up and develop in their absense, though.
And that makes this a very difficult move for Liverpool. Klopp may have to wait at least another year if he truly wants Aouar at Liverpool.
