Jurgen Klopp says Alisson Becker ‘saved’ Liverpool during their 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.
Sadio Mane and Mo Salah’s quickfire double gave the Reds three vital points but things were rocky for a period.
Chelsea cut Liverpool open several times following Salah’s wonder-goal. The chances fell to Eden Hazard, of all players, but a combination of the post and Alisson saved Liverpool.
And Klopp was sure to thank Alisson after beating Chelsea.
“There were 10 minutes when Chelsea changed their system and had their chances and Ali saved our life,” Klopp said, according to the Echo.
“Apart from that we controlled and dominated the game for 80 minutes which is the best you can say about a game against Chelsea.
“But in these 10 minutes, they could have changed the game completely – a post and two saves from Ali, right? But then we controlled the game again.”
It was a period that would eventually win the game for Liverpool. Hazard will feel he should have scored his chances, but after hitting the post with his first, Alisson produced a fine save to keep his sheet clean.
It also means that Alisson has kept 18 clean sheets in his first season in the Premier League. That’s two more than his nearest rival, Manchester City’s Ederson, and has him in pole position for the ‘Golden Glove’.
The Brazilian has enjoyed a wonderful first season at Anfield. And with Liverpool returning to the top of the Premier League, it may get even better over the next two months.
