Rafa Camacho seems to have called out Jurgen Klopp and his staff with an Instagram post.

The 18-year-old bagged a hat-trick for the Under 23’s on Sunday in a 6-0 win at Leicester City. Camacho then used the performance to send a message to Liverpool.

“I do not know whose idea it is, but I will prove that they are mistaken about my football,” he wrote.

“I’m not a right defender, I’m an attacker who scores goals. This is my DNA.

“Happy to score 3 goals and help the team in today’s win vs Leicester.”

It’s a pointed message, seeing as Camacho has only ever featured as a right-back for the first team. He ‘broke through’ in the summer as Liverpool’s senior players were away at the World Cup.

It meant that Klopp rotated Camacho and Curtis Jones as right-backs and was impressed enough that the former made his senior debut in the position against Wolves in January.

Camacho then got a minute against Crystal Palace two weeks later, again at right-back.

It appears clear, however, that Camacho doesn’t see his future there. Neither he nor Jones are used to the role – both prefer to attack from midfield, but Klopp hasn’t found space for them there.

Jones did feature in midfield in that Wolves game, however. Perhaps that leaves Camacho feeling as though his only future at the club is at right-back, something he clearly doesn’t want.

And so he has a decision to make. Does he stay, fill in at right-back and try to make a career at Anfield? It’s what Trent Alexander-Arnold, another player who developed in midfield, has done.

Or does Camacho leave in order to fulfil his potential in a role he says is in his ‘DNA’?

Well, with reports last week that contract talks have stalled, he may have already made up his mind. And Camacho appears to have told Klopp exactly why with this Instagram post.
