Chelsea have told supposed Liverpool target Callum Hudson-Odoi that they will refuse to sell him this summer, according to reports.
The Times claim that Chelsea will resist any offers for the 18-year-old. It’s a risky move, considering he’s about to enter the final year of his contract.
Chelsea will never receive more money for Hudson-Odoi than they would now, making their decision to refuse a brave one. Their goal will be to convince the teenager to sign a new deal – but they aren’t the only ones interested.
Far from it, in fact.
The Times say that both Bayern Munich and Manchester United will bid this summer, regardless of Chelsea’s stance.
And so this comes as a double-blow to Liverpool. The Reds are allegedly interested in Hudson-Odoi, with SportBild reporting that as recently as last week.
But not only would they have to convince Chelsea to sell a player they don’t want to sell, the competition for him is fiercer than ever.
The Times say Chelsea value Hudson-Odoi at ‘more than £40 million’. Chelsea did reject a £35 million offer from Bayern in January, backing that claim up.
This is still the easiest time to sign Hudson-Odoi, however, despite four huge clubs hoping to claim him for next season.
He’ll be virtually free in a year and that will alert every major club in Europe. His progress has been quick despite being unsettled and lacking in game time. Give it another year, and he could be a very special player indeed.
If Liverpool think they could use him, this summer remains the best time to make it happen. Regardless of the notable difficulty.
