Liverpool should pay attention to reports that Boca Juniors are ready to sell Cristian Pavon this summer.
Diario Xeneize make the claim, saying that Boca have just made the decision. They also say that Pavon has a release clause of just under £38m.
Pavon is certainly an interesting player. The 23-year-old is arguably the most valuable player in Argentina right now. He’s been linked with clubs like Arsenal, while it’s been claimed that Lionel Messi wants him at Barcelona.
He made his debut for the Argentine National Team in 2017 and held down a place. Jorge Sampaoli included him in his World Cup squad, even starting Pavon in the 4-3 defeat to France.
His form has dropped off since but Pavon is still a very talented player. Boca will likely see this as the final year in which he commands a big fee and so their desire to sell makes sense.
Pavon is a winger who can play on both sides – a very desirable trait at Liverpool. He’s a threat from range, as a crosser, and can run at defenders. Development is key, however, and that’s why the thought of Jurgen Klopp doing it is an exciting one.
Liverpool have a knack for picking up players with a little bit of doubt and developing them into quality footballers. Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson are some very notable examples of players Liverpool have done that with.
Pavon would be a risk – there’s no doubt about that – but Liverpool have a chance to get a very talented player who could fit their needs very nicely.
