Real Madrid have re-appointed Zinedine Zidane as manager and the new boss has reportedly listed his targets but Real’s supposed interest in Sadio Mane could prove Liverpool’s progress under Jurgen Klopp.
Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda named Zidane’s supposed targets on ‘El Chiringuito’ Monday night. It was a hell of a list, too. Paul Pogba, Lucas Hernandez, Eden Hazard, and Kylian Mbappe make the cut. As does Liverpool’s Mane.
Now, Reds fans are used to Europe’s elite courting their star players. Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona just last season, while Luiz Suarez and Raheem Sterling both left within the last five years.
But Real’s interest in Mane is different. It comes at a time when Liverpool are very much on the up and pushing for top trophies. This isn’t a one-off season – last year’s Champions League run proved that – while Liverpool are doing well financially.
There is certainly no need for the Reds to sell Mane. If Real do indeed come in, it’ll be a brilliant opportunity to show the progress under Klopp.
Resisting Real’s interest and keeping Mane would show strength. It would show that this isn’t the same Liverpool who were forced to sell and rebuild, but that this is a Liverpool side marching forwards.
That’s worth more than the money. It’s attractive to players, fans, and at the end of the day, Liverpool need stability more than money.
No one really wants to deal with interest from a club like Real but it could end up looking good for Liverpool.
