Jamie Carragher has stressed the importance of Liverpool’s upcoming games, labelling it a defining week for the Reds.
Liverpool play three games from one Sunday to the next but not just any games. While Watford’s visit on Wednesday may be treated as routine, the other two will not.
Jurgen Klopp is planning for a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday. It’s one of the biggest games of any season, let alone in the middle of a title race.
United haven’t just rediscovered their form but are playing better than they have in some time. Liverpool have reason to be nervous about that trip – especially with the game a week later.
The Watford game is a chance to breathe before Liverpool make the very short trip to face Everton. The Toffees aren’t in anything like the form United are but if there’s one game they’ll want to get it together for, it’s this one.
It’s no wonder that Carragher has called it a defining week for Liverpool in his Telegraph column.

“Any lingering doubts about going the distance will be erased if Liverpool achieve positive results”, he went on to say. “Nothing will be taken for granted against any other side, but they will feel the two biggest hurdles have been overcome.
“Coming off the pitch at Old Trafford with a win would make Klopp’s players more certain everything is possible.
“It would also deliver a psychological blow to Manchester City as they prepared to line-up at Wembley, knowing they too must travel to United before the end of the season.
“This is a fixture City will have noted, believing Liverpool can drop points.”
This defining week, as Carragher puts it, won’t win anyone the title. It may not even lose it but it will position both Liverpool and City for the all-important last nine or ten games.
