David Amoyal reports that Liverpool have an interest in Brescia’s Sandro Tonali.
Amoyal is the second person in a week to suggest an interest from Liverpool in Tonali. He follows Brescia president Massimo Cellino telling Corriere dello Sport that the Reds had made contact ‘a little while ago’.
Now, Amoyal, a journalist for the likes of ESPN and gianlucadimarzio.com, has detailed the race for Tonali.
Liverpool’s Tonali interest
“There are many clubs interested [in Tonali],” he said. “There are multiple clubs in the Premier League, Liverpool is definitely one of them.”
“Brescia’s president Cellino is asking for a huge return for him. As it stands now, I would say Juve and Inter are still the favourites.
“Definitely, Liverpool are in the mix. How concrete their interest, and how close they are now remains to be seen. I don’t get the vibe it’s that close either way.”
Tonali isn’t a player that most know. He’s still only a teenager, although he’s also the 2018 Serie B player of the year and in the Italian National Team.
If you’d like more information on the player and what he could potential bring to Liverpool, we detailed him on the site last week.
What does this news mean?
As for this latest report, it certainly fans the flames. No, it isn’t as strong as the president of Brescia outright naming Liverpool as having an interest in Tonali.
It does add some perspective, however. The race for Tonali looks like a difficult one. If Juventus, Roma, and Internazionale are interested, Liverpool have a lot of convincing to do.
Italians don’t typically move out of the country without a very good offer at a young age. Marco Verratti and Pietro Pellegri both moved to France, for example, but both were given huge offers for their age.
Liverpool are capable of that offer but they’d need to really want a teenage midfielder.
This may be their only opportunity at Tonali opportunity – we’ll see how much they want to take it.
