Liverpool have signed US Orleans Loiret defender Billy Koumetio and the young Frenchman will join the Reds’ Academy but is viewed as an exciting prospect for the first team for the next few years.

ESPN report that Liverpool have sealed a deal for the promising Billy Koumetio after a trial last year.

After so many fans screamed for Jurgen Klopp to sign a new defender during the current injury crisis, it’s with a measure of irony that the Academy have gone out and signed one.

Koumetio spent time with the Anfield outfit in November, with the youngster travelling to Berlin to play in friendlies and showcase his talent.

He’ll start out with the Liverpool U16s but will aim to progress through the ranks and one day run out for the first team. His inspiration will come from Ki-Jana Hoever who made his debut for the senior side a year after joining the club.

Jurgen Klopp has no intention of making any first team signings this month but has big plans for the summer with the likes of Timo Werner linked with a move to Anfield.
