Harry Kane has been ruled out of action until March after suffering an ankle injury during a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
The Englishman has scored 14 goals this season and alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is the leading top goalscoring in the Premier League.
Spurs are third in the table, nine points behind leaders Liverpool with their defeat to United a major blow to their title hopes.
However, just as significant a dent to their dreams of lifting the Premier League trophy is Harry Kane’s serious injury that will see him sidelined until March.
A statement from Spurs reads: “Following preliminary assessments, we can confirm that Harry Kane has damaged ligaments in his left ankle, sustained during Sunday’s match.
“He will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in early March.”
For Liverpool, this is good news even if it is never positive to hear that a player has been injured. All the same, Manchester City remain the side that will pose the biggest threat to the Merseyside outfit and with 16 games to go, the four-point gap between the two sides is still rather slim.
