Borussia Dortmund could be out of the race to sign RB Leipzig’s incredibly rapid forward Timo Werner and this would come as a boost to Liverpool’s desire to sign the German in the summer.
The 22-year-old is highly sought after and for Liverpool, could prove to be the final puzzle piece in their attacking lineup.
With Roberto Firmino now charged with occupying a deeper, more creative role behind Salah and Mane, the arrival of Werner would see the Egyptian moved back onto the wing and a natural no.9 leading the line.
The chances of seeing this front four in action may have improved drastically over the last 24 hours as Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke hints that BVB have missed out on a major transfer target.
Goal journalist Ronan Murphy cites Watzke as saying: “I know at least eighty players who would suit us well, but at least I have the impression that one of the two players has already settled his future – and not with us.”
This alone would mean very little in direct relation to Werner but the Dortmund CEO was asked to choose between Thorgan Hazard and Timo Werner, with the implication being that if Werner has already “settled his future”, it could be with Liverpool.
We have seen Michael Edwards agree deals six months in advance before but there is the not so small matter of Bayern Munich, who are also after him.
Some Liverpool fans on social media reckon the Bavarians are favourites to sign Werner but I doubt RB Leipzig would want to sell to a direct rival and would prefer selling to an overseas club like Liverpool.
