Virgil van Dijk was pictured in training on Wednesday after missing the Reds’ FA Cup trip to Wolverhampton where the hosts dumped them out of the tournament.
This weekend, Liverpool travel down to the south coast to face Chris Hughton’s Brighton side which, for all the drama surrounding other sides moored in the bottom half of the table, is plodding away without fuss, 10 points clear of the drop zone.
That said, of course, they face a huge task on Saturday as Liverpool visit the Amex and even if they have lost their last two games in all competitions, there is no underestimating this brilliant Liverpool side.
Despite losing 2-1 to Manchester City in their last Premier League fixture, Liverpool remain four points clear of the champions.
Jurgen Klopp will be pleased to know that his only fit senior centre back Virgil van Dijk was fit enough to train at Melwood on Wednesday after missing the Wolves clash with what the German said was a minor injury.
Speaking before the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Monday, Klopp said of van Dijk: “Virg cannot play; he is at home and hopefully it is nothing, but he has played all the games so far, so we had to try to find a solution for that.”
A gallery on Liverpool’s website shows van Dijk training with his teammates and looking as if he was never injured. Conspiracy theorists on social media reckon the Dutchman wasn’t injured but Klopp purposefully left him out of the squad as he didn’t want to progress to the next round of FA Cup fixtures.
