Chelsea have completed a £58million deal to sign Borrusia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic after the Reds withdrew their interest.
Had you told Liverpool fans in the summer, following the Fekir fiasco, that Pulisic would be available in January and Jurgen Klopp would pass on the opportunity to make a move, there would have been pandemonium.
Fast forward to the first week of 2019 and Liverpool can go 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League with a win over Manchester City all without the playmaker that is supposedly needed at Anfield.
Chelsea have certainly signed a talented player but Liverpool not signing him is hardly a disaster especially given it has cost the Blues almost £60million to get the deal over the line.
Pulisic has been loaned back to Dortmund for the remainder of the season, essentially paying a premium to ensure that another club didn’t jump the queue in the summer and gazump Maurizio Sarri’s side.
For Liverpool, there is still the whole month to get any business that Michael Edwards might be working on over the line. There are a number of fans who believe that Klopp needs to take advantage of the chance to win the league by reinforcing his squad this month.
Timo Werner, Nabil Fekir (still) and Kai Havertz are players linked with the Reds that could come in and bolster the attacking presence that Liverpool have, providing further cover and competition for forward positions.
