Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Porto right back Éder Militão.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has usurped Nathaniel Clyne as Liverpool’s first choice right back and although it’s clear that he still has a lot to learn, he is a club favourite and as a Scouser, has a bond with the fans that is impossible to forge.
That said, Liverpool’s squad depth at right back is not nearly as strong as it might appear to be. Clyne has struggled with injury more over the last 18 months than he has ever before, Joe Gomez is actually a centre back and James Milner is ageing.
The Mirror cites reports in Portugal as claiming that Liverpool are interested in making a move to sign Éder Militão.
The 20-year-old Brazilian is a highly-rated young prospect and has attracted attention from all of Manchester City, Barcelona, Roma and Borussia Dortmund.
It remains to be seen whether or not Jürgen Klopp plans on making a move to sign Militão in January but given that the need to sign a new right back isn’t exactly urgent, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a move postponed until the summer transfer window.
As it is, Liverpool are coping with the rigours of the Premier League and have come through a mini injury crisis with an impeccable defensive record. The Reds have conceded just seven times in 19 games this season.
