Liverpool target Frenkie de Jong is a highly sought-after talent and reports in the British press indicate that he is available but only if Ajax Amsterdam receive £75million for his services.
With Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum plying their trade at Anfield these days, there is a strong Dutch spine at Liverpool.
With the former recently hinting that Matthijs de Ligt is on the radar of Reds’ scouts, Liverpool supporters have been discussing which Dutch players would suit the Anfield outfit’s style of play.
My personal favourite would be Frenkie de Jong, with the 21-year-old demonstrating superb maturity and intelligence on the ball in recent friendlies for the Netherlands.
Jorginho was a player linked with Liverpool in the summer before Fabinho completed a £43million switch from AS Monaco. The Italian is one of the best dictators of play in world football and Frenkie de Jong has been compared to Maurizio Sarri’s puppet master.
The young Dutchman will command a huge transfer fee when he does eventually move from Ajax as Manchester City, Barcelona and Liverpool all hold an interest. According to the Mirror, any interested party will have to offer £75m (€84m) to sign the 21-year-old.
While it remains to be seen if the Reds would splash that cash to sign de Jong, having van Dijk and Wijnaldum already at the club could be a useful bargaining chip if Michael Edwards is called upon to recruit the Ajax prodigy.
