Liverpool have been linked with a move for Ousmane Dembele for a few weeks now and the Daily Mail claim that Barcelona want to recoup as much of his £96m transfer fee as possible.
While there is no doubt that a front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah is still one of the very best in Europe, with the trio yet to rediscover the form displayed at the end of last season, some think Jürgen Klopp should turn to the transfer market.
It seems rather fanciful to imagine Dembele at Liverpool, not because of his unbelievable transfer fee but more so because of his disruptive nature. Klopp is a big fan of his but such is the team chemistry at the moment, it seems unlikely that he would do anything to upset that.
The Liverpool Echo reported this week that there is no truth to the Dembele links but they are yet to go away, with the Daily Mail claiming that the Reds could sign him for close to £96million.
They claim that Barcelona want to offload the Frenchman as his breaches of club rules have annoyed Ernesto Valverde and other coaches. He would be a costly investment for any interested club as his huge transfer fee is supplemented by his enormous wages.
The report does, however, indicate that Barcelona do not expect Liverpool to pay anywhere near £96million to sign the forward and with his value dropping every week, it would be much wiser to wait and reevaluate in the summer.
While Dembele’s quality and ambidextrous nature would make most attacks in Europe better and would help Liverpool in their Premier League title challenge, a creative midfielder is higher on Michael Edwards’ list of priorities in the transfer market.
