While losing to the Serbian outfit was disappointing enough, the news that Joe Gomez came away from the game with a fresh injury makes matters worse.
The 21-year-old has been in sublime form this season and you could make the argument that he has been the best player in the Reds squad since the start of the Premier League campaign.
Gomez hasn’t been ruled out of contention to face Fulham this weekend but was on the bench for Liverpool’s midweek Champions League clash as a precaution but was called on at halftime.
The Telegraph’s Matt Law reports that Gareth Southgate is monitoring the injury before making a decision on whether or not to call the English centre-back up to the England squad for the next international break.
