Liverpool fans have reacted with outrage to the news that Roberto Firmino was not nominated as part of the FIFA World XI for 2018.
Mohamed Salah’s incredible debut season on Merseyside naturally attracted the attention of football fans and this means that Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, who both enjoyed the best seasons of their careers didn’t receive the praise they deserved.
Firmino is thought by some to be the most important player in the Liverpool squad as it’s his work rate and selfless attitude that really helps Jürgen Klopp’s style of play thrive even if Salah and Mané are indispensable.
The Brazilian scored and assisted 27 goals and 17 assists respectively, including 10 in the Champions League as Liverpool made it all the way to the Champions League final in Kiev.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Karim Benzema and Mario Mandzukic were included and there is certainly an argument to be made for Firmino being better than all three over the last 12 months.
Fans on Twitter certainly believe so.
The FIFA World XI nominations are a complete joke. Entirely reputation based. Alisson, Oblak (worst omission), Vertonghen, Icardi, Immobile, Agüero and Firmino missing out, whilst players like Alves, Mina (worst inclusion), Matić, Lukaku and Benzema all make the cut instead.

So, Mario Mandzukic is nominated for FIFA’s World XI, but Roberto Firmino is not.
What. A. Joke.

Van Dijk, Lovren, Salah and Mane all make the shortlist for FIFA World XI. How Alisson, Milner and Firmino miss out is beyond me.

How Firmino hasn’t made this shortlist is beyond me. 27 goals in all competitions last season, including 10 goals in the Champions League, and 1 goal in the World Cup this summer despite very limited game time. Scandalous. https://t.co/3vbr3Cu232
