Bizarre Lazar Markovic saga rolls on after cryptic post on Twitter

Lazar Markovic has hit back at suggestions that his move to Anderlecht broke down due to monetary demands after manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck said the player is to blame for a move breaking down.

While questions have been raised over why Simon Mignolet and Divock Origi are still at the club, it makes absolutely no sense for Lazar Markovic to still be a Liverpool player after what has been an appalling four-year spell.

Signed by Brendan Rodgers in 2014, the Serb has never really any shown sign of becoming an important player for the Reds and has gone out on loan three times since his move from Benfica.

Anderlecht manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck said: “Our president and sports director did everything to convince him. They waited until Liverpool lowered the price. They made a crazy effort. It’s his own fault that the deal fell through.”

Markovic has responded on Twitter by insisting that a move to Belgium didn’t fall through due to his financial demands yet the bizarre affair still lacks clarity, with the winger falling short of what’s required on Merseyside.

The 24-year-old is unlikely to play much this season if at all given the depth in attacking areas begging the question: why did Markovic not leave the club this summer when the Reds were willing to take a massive loss on him to move him off the wage bill?
