Paul Joyce provides update on Liverpool’s interest in Christian Pulisic

Paul Joyce has denied suggestions that Liverpool will make a move for Christian Pulisic this summer, claiming the Reds would baulk at paying £62million for the American.

Liverpool are unlikely to sign a new no.10 this summer and Jürgen Klopp has, somewhat uncharacteristically, spoken about his transfer business in the last month.

“If nothing happens with our boys, we press on,” Klopp stated. “If something happens, you always have to make sure you react. If not now, then maybe next window or next summer.”

As far as Pulisic is concerned, Raphael Hongistein suggested that Liverpool could do a Keita and agree a deal in advance for next summer.

Paul Joyce has refuted any claims that Liverpool are close to agreeing any kind of deal to sign Pulisic either this summer or next.

The Times writer cites the low output that Pulisic has yielded in the last two season and although he recognises that the forward is still a teenager, he does point out that with the talent available up front for the Reds already, it makes no sense to spend £62million on a winger that won’t make an immediate impact.

Klopp is still an admirer of Pulisic, Joyce says, but what does that mean going forward? He writes that it’s a waiting game for Liverpool as they monitor the situation with it likely that Dortmund will ask for less next summer than the £62m fee touted.

Pulisic has just two years remaining on his Dortmund contract and is unwilling to sign an extension which means the Bundesliga outfit will want to sell next summer to avoid the risk of seeing him leave for free in 2020.
