Nabil Fekir unlikely to leave Lyon this summer

While Liverpool made Nabil Fekir their number one attacking target earlier in the summer, the u-turn taken after a failed medical appears to be final.

It feels like the pursuit of Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir has been a ridiculously drawn out transfer saga but I’m starting to wonder whether that’s actually the case.

With latest revelations all pointing to Lyon’s captain remaining at the club for the coming season, one wonders whether all the links to the player following the botched attempt to snap him up before the World Cup have all simply been conjecture.

We’ve already heard the opinion of Raphael Honigstein – a journalist who enjoys a close relationship with Klopp – who believes that “Fekir is definitely not happening.”

Honigstein told ESPN FC that the situation surrounding the Fekir’s attempted move to Liverpool hasn’t changed since June and that this will remain the case until the window shuts.

Meanwhile, Get French Football News – better known by their Twitter handle ‘GFFN’ – have just tweeted the following:

This aligns with what we earlier reported regarding French journalist Jonatan MacHardy’s comments, with the RMC reporter revealing he not only hopes to see the attacker remain in France but believes Fekir is interested in staying “at Lyon to play in the Champions League.”

On English soil, the Liverpool ECHO have reported today that the club have been told by Lyon they “have until Tuesday” to reignite any interest in completing a deal but it appears increasingly likely that this will not happen.

It’s a real shame as personally I’d have loved to have seen Nabil Fekir in a Liverpool shirt and I believe he would’ve been the perfect replacement for Philippe Coutinho in the more attacking of Klopp’s midfield roles.

Whether Liverpool decide to purchase an alternative remains to be seen.
