Liverpool are unlikely to sign Nabil Fekir this summer despite the need to replace Philippe Coutinho, however, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has not yet ruled out a move.
There is still enough time left in the Premier League summer transfer window to complete a deal for highly-rated playmaker Fekir but it doesn’t look promising for the Reds as the clock ticks down to Deadline Day.
Liverpool have spent close to £200million on Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Naby Keïta and Xherdan Shaqiri but the spending is unlikely to cross over the £200m mark with the signing of Fekir.
All signs from the British press (as unreliable as they have been recently) are that Liverpool have walked away from a deal with Lyon indefinitely.
According to French news outlet Canal+, Lyon president Aulas has spoken on Fekir’s future again, stating his belief that the playmaker will stay at the Ligue 1 club for another season but is not making any promises.
He said: “I don’t think he will be leaving us, you never know. Nabil will be with us next season.”
While some would love to see Christian Pulisic join Liverpool, it’s more than likely that the Reds will go into the new season with Sadio Mané playing a more creative role than he is used to.
The Senegal attacker did play there at times last season and excelled. His aptitude for playing as a no.10 means that Klopp will have a number of options in midfield without needing to dip into the market.
