Early on Tuesday morning, reports from Italy suggested Liverpool had met Roma’s asking price for Alisson before it later emerged that a bid of £62 million had been submitted and the Italians want slightly more to agree to a deal.
Liverpool fans have been encouraged by Alisson himself and the player’s agent that a deal taking him to Anfield is still very much possible after their social media activity was scrutinised.
His agent, Ze Maria Neis, liked a photoshopped image of the goalkeeper on Instagram that depicted him in half a Roma kit and half a Liverpool jersey. While that is hardly conclusive evidence, it is intriguing all the same.
The player himself has allegedly removed Roma from his Instagram bio and while there is no way to prove when he did so, Philippe Coutinho did the same thing just days before he completed a £142 million move to Barcelona in January.
Italian news publication Il Messaggero has claimed that Liverpool have met Roma’s asking price of €65m cash + €10m in bonuses which equals £57.6 up front and £8.8m in add-ons.
This update comes a day after La Repubblica reported that the Reds were close to meeting the Calcio A side’s valuation of Alisson and merely had to bid slightly more to agree on a fee.
Il Messaggero’s report might have seemed like a shot in the dark but later in the day, respected journalists like Gianluca Di Marzio reported that a €70million bid had been sent and that Roma want €75m to sell the goalkeeper.
Following Di Marzio’s claims, the likes of James Pearce and Neil Jones jumped on the hype train by tweeting that a £62 million bid has been sent to Roma.
