Martin Tyler has seemingly confirmed that Liverpool will sign Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir live on air while commentating on the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday.
During the transfer window, supporters will hang onto any piece of information so long as they believe it to be genuine and indicative of business being conducted by the club they support.
Liverpool fans are no different. In fact, our supporters are some of the most incredible when it comes to transfers. Reds have been known to use mobile flight trackers to find out if private jets are landing at John Lennon airport.
Last summer, many fans on Twitter were adamant they had located the Mercedes carrying Virgil van Dijk to his Melwood medical – the fact that he didn’t complete a move until January means little in the grand scheme of this crazy fanbase.
Martin Tyler, respected Sky Sports commentator, dropped a big hint on Sunday that a deal for Nabil Fekir is close to being completed.
While commentating for SBS Australia, Tyler said: “The reason Fekir hasn’t moved already from Lyon to Liverpool is the structuring of the deal.
“Liverpool a bit suspicious about a problem that surfaced in a medical. They will take him, but payments will have to be in stages. He has proved his availability of a regular basis.”
The media veteran, however, was merely speculating on information that has been freely reported on in the last week and isn’t necessarily indicative of positive talks being held between Lyon and Liverpool.
That said, now that Fekir’s involvement at the World Cup is over after he picked up a winner’s medal with France, hypothetically speaking, it does open the door for talks to continue without interruption.
There are still a few weeks remaining in the Premier League’s summer transfer window and that will mean that Lyon will be under pressure from Fekir and his representatives as well as Liverpool to complete a deal.
