Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has hinted that Daniel Sturridge could stay at the club this season after the Englishman started pre-season on a high note.

While the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané are yet to return to pre-season training, Klopp has welcomed back a host of first-team names including new signings Fabinho and Naby Keïta.

Daniel Sturridge has also returned to Melwood but his presence at the training ground is shrouded in far more doubt than most of his counterparts with it uncertain where his future lies.

After another season broken up by different injuries and a nightmarish loan spell with West Brom, many have suggested that the 28-year-old could be on his way out on a permanent basis this time.

Klopp, however, has said that he is not about to push Sturridge out and that there is a place at Liverpool for Sturridge if he wants it.

He said: “It’s funny, this is my third pre-season and every year we talk about the same things! It’s no problem.

“I always said there is a future, it’s about what we do in the moment. At the moment it’s all good and we don’t have to make decisions.

“I don’t think about my players like this – like, maybe he’s in or out. With the young ones we make these decisions but not with the other guys.

“They show up, and it should be easy for me in the end. The window is still open, right? Is it closing tomorrow? No? Good!”
