Liverpool announced that Naby Keïta will officially join the club from RB Leipzig on the 1st of July when his contract expires.

It’s been a long time coming but we finally know that Keïta is Liverpool’s new number 8, inheriting the jersey from the legendary Steven Gerrard.

An agreement was made for the transfer last year in August and now the Guinean is ready to start his career in England, with Fabinho also set to join the club.

The two midfielders will start pre-season along with Liverpool’s non-World Cup players on the 2nd of July, as Jürgen Klopp gears up for a massive season in his reign as manager.

Keïta told Liverpoolfc.com: “When you see how they performed last season it makes me want to do the same and to be a part of this team. I would like to be able to achieve a similar kind of season with them next season – but even better.

“I chose Liverpool because it is a team I watched often – and I also spoke a lot about it with Sadio [Mane]. He told me a lot about the team and the club.

“I also spoke with the coach, who told me about the project for the team and that motivated me to be here.”
