La Liga expert Guillem Balague confirms that Ousmane Dembele will be allowed to leave this summer on loan if a deal can be agreed with Atletico Madrid for the purchase of Antoine Griezmann.

Aside from questionable links from news outlets in France, there is yet to be a concrete approach from Liverpool with regard to a deal for Ousmane Dembele.

There were claims earlier this week that the Catalonians had begun contacting clubs to evaluate the interest in the market to take the Frenchman on loan.

Since Philippe Coutinho signed for Barcelona, Demeble’s game time has been negatively impacted and a couple niggling injuries haven’t helped his case.

In a live Q&A for Sky Sports, La Liga expert Guillem Balague discussed the circumstances under which Barcelona might be willing to part with Ousmane Dembele this summer amid widespread speculation over the Frenchman’s fututure.

“My understanding of the situation is they will let him go on loan,” he explained. “Right now, who is going to pay €100 million for him anyway? As I said, they will let him go on loan though.

“At first they thought he’s advancing well but now they realise he needs to get minutes and he won’t if Antoine Griezmann arrives.

“They are waiting to see if Griezmann gets confirmed and if that’s the case they are looking at the possibility of letting him go on loan.”

Funnily enough, Jürgen Klopp was asked about a deal for the winger after Liverpool lost to Chelsea, and the German said jokingly: “Is he on the market? Now I’m interested!”

Klopp has priors with Dembele as he tried to sign him before he joined Borussia Dortmund from Rennes.

If Liverpool did sign the 19-year-old I would prefer it to be loan to buy as we’re otherwise just developing Dembele for a rival in Europe.

There would be a pleasant symmetry if he joined Liverpool from Barcelona after Philippe Coutinho joined the La Liga champions from the Merseysiders earlier this season.
