Reports in Germany indicate that Borussia Dortmund would sell Christian Pulisic for a mammoth £88 million this summer.
Still just 19 years old with his birthday ages away, Pulisic has been tipped to become one of the world’s most talented footballer’s in a few years time and not to be left out of such excitement, Liverpool and Manchester United are monitoring the situation closely.
Although Pulisic was a United supporter as a child, I don’t think many supporters would hesitate if offered the chance to sign him. After all Jamie Carragher was an Everton fan and he’s loved by Reds the world over.
Then again, he didn’t cost the club €100 million (£88m), the price being quoted by German broadcasters Sport1 as the value Dortmund have slapped on Pulisic’s head.
The reason there has been extra speculation this week regarding players coming in this summer is because James Pearce reported that Liverpool “have cooled their interest” in Thomas Lemar and are now looking elsewhere.
With names like Isco being bandied about fancifully by fans (myself included), a pricey but realistic option is Borussia Dortmund’s Pulisic. At 19 years of age, he will not only be one for the future but is already an exciting talent that can deliver the goods in Philippe Coutinho’s absence.
I can personally envisage FSG breaking the bank for Pulisic given that he’s American and still yet to leave his teens and could be a great investment even if that investment costs £88m now – the market is only going to continue to rise.
Pulisic has admitted he is a fan of both United and the Premier League but the right offer could see the American wind up a Liverpool player in the summer.
“Of course. You know… I’ve talked to him [Aubameyang],” the youngster told ESPN earlier this week. “The Premier League is an unbelievable league and you never know in football what can happen so right now I’m focused with Dortmund.”
Asked to confirm that he was a supporter of United as a youngster, Pulisic replied: “Yeah, I was. I was definitely a big fan. Of course, right now I am under contract with Dortmund and I’m not looking around or doing anything like that so I’m very focused there.”
